Man, 80s, killed in ‘hit-and-run’ in Tesco car park as cops looking for van driver

A pensioner has died after he was hit by a van in a suspected hit-and-run in a Tesco car park.

A man in his 80s was rushed to hospital after he was hit while walking through the Tesco Extra car park in Barnet, North London before 5pm on Saturday.

He was sadly pronounced dead on Sunday, and his next of kin have been informed.

The van involved in the collision did not stop at the scene and Metropolitan Police are still carrying out enquiries to find the driver.

Police arrested two men on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

They have been released pending further enquiries.

Detective Inspector Ian Watson, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “The car park was extremely busy with people going about their day when this collision occurred.

“If you saw anything, or captured events on dash cam or a mobile device, then please get in touch.”
